The Waterford Canal Festival is a cherished tradition that celebrates the history, culture and community spirit of the Village of Waterford. It is one of the Capital Region’s signature canal-based celebrations, as Waterford's unique identity is the gateway to the Erie and Champlain Canal lock systems. The festival draws thousands of residents and boating visitors to our historic waterfront, as we showcase children's programs, live music, boating, kayaking, bicycling and more. Including historic tours of the hand-built replica of the 1st canalboat to travel across NYS in 1825, the Seneca Chief!
The festival is also a great support to our local businesses, retailers, artisans, craftsmen, tradesmen, musicians and food vendors with foot traffic and overnight tourists. As well as provides an excellent opportunity to explore the Waterford Canal System’s rich history.
