True rock-n-roll still has a place in the year 2025. At the same time new bands rely on electronic, autotuned bullshit to polish their sound. Joe Mansman & The Midnight Revival Band have dedicated the better half of the past decade to putting their soul into creating true rock music. The Glens Falls Based band has graced stages all over this United States touring with the likes of Texas Hippie Coalition and more. At times sharing the stage with 80's metal Icons like Dokken or with 2000s rockers Hinder. While in the studio recording and every gig, giving blood, sweat and a work hard, die young attitude that no one can keep up with. Joe Mansman & The Midnight Revival Band will headline a free show at the Hangar On The Hudson in Troy on Friday May 2. The Dionysus Effect and The Hard Luck Souls will open the show at 7:00PM. I had a chance to chat with lead singer songwriter Joe Mansman himself about the future of the band.
Ralph: What has been going on with the band lately? What is planned for the future touring? Let’s talk touring.
Joe: Just getting our ducks in a row and filling the calendar in between working our day jobs! I got married last year (actually coming up on our anniversary), went to Europe, recorded all year, released a few singles, played roughly 65 shows some of them which were huge bucket lists for us such as The Machine Shop in Michigan The Crafthouse in Pittsburgh which were all sold out, and it was a whirlwind to say the least, but it was great. This is the ten year anniversary of the band and for the last 3 years we’ve just been trying to top each following year in productivity and we have. This year will be no exception. We are gearing up for a few badass local appearances including The Hangar in Troy (our debut there) and a headlining night at Harley Rendezvous, and then traveling in the summer with some as of yet unannounced tour dates going into fall again. We’re just getting all the gears moving now!
Ralph: You’ve been releasing singles, will we see a full length record in the near future?
Joe: Yes! This is the longest we’ve ever recorded, but this year we will for sure be releasing our full length. We had a lot of material that changed studio hands last year, unfortunately, and it kept setting us back in between having to play shows, but we couldn’t have been happier about the singles we chose to at least keep giving our fans something to chew on while they wait. As you know the right timing is also key, and in order to celebrate it right we’ve been waiting on releasing more until we can tie up the last few loose ends and set a release date.
Ralph: Do you feel you play a major part in the rock revival? What are your thoughts on the electronic music? It seems to dominate music industry.
Joe: Were small fish in a big pond, so I don’t think we are at the forefront of anything to be honest. And around our parts there are some amazing groups that are crushing at it like Gozer or The Broken View just to name a few of them so all I can speak of are the kind words of others who tell us how we sound and receive it humbly. We grew up as scene kids cutting our teeth in the punk and hardcore clubs and a lot of those values are still at the core of how we operate wether it’s in our songwriting or how DIY we run things. Our sound evolves just because we become better players individually and with each other, so I don’t know, it wasn’t ever super intentional I think we just wanted to write cool songs. As far as electronic music or indie music, I’m not a hater at all I just couldn’t name any particular bands that I’m into at the moment. My Spotify playlist right now is Alabama and Norma Jean haha.
Ralph: The band loves the party. Do you have any funny stories while drinking. Will the band put out their own beer or whiskey?
Joe: I wish we could put out our own drinks that’d be dope. Drinking stories though yeah we have plenty. We’ve had many nights of puking behind amps and still finishing the show or lighting up cigarettes on stage and acting like nobody noticed.
