The year was 1994 or 1995 I remember my band Bone Box was just about to head to Canada for a decent run. The manager of Saratoga Winners gave me 2 promo cassettes (music recorded to tape that spun on 2 small reels and you popped them into your cars stereo system - for you young bucks out there lol). 2 bands from the West Coast. She gave me the cassettes for the ride and my ears, along with the rest of the band and roadies, were in for a treat. The first was a 3 song promo from Korn. The tuning, the vocals, the riffs… just so raw and didn’t sound like anything I had heard up to that point.

I instantly latched onto this record when it came out and I thought I would never stop Listening to it. Bone Box had the pleasure of playing some shows with them on their first major tour and live the energy was insane! I haven’t listened to Korn in 20 years but I’ve seen them live since and they still kill it! The second 3 song promo was from an unknown band at the time called Deftones, Again, the passion, the vocals, the rawness, simply is amazing.

When this full length came out (they were signed by Madonna and her label on this debut release) I was attached AND yet again Bone Box was able to play shows with them and to this day Deftones are still in my top 3 favorite bands. I love them so much! I was able to open for Deftones in 2010 again and Chino stood side stage and watched our whole show. These 2 releases really pushed boundaries for me in the 90’s and I am forever grateful for being the age I was at the time they came out. Timing is everything!
